According to the Airbnb application, Czech capital will be one of the world’s 10 most popular tourist destinations of 2017. Summer season 2017 will be the busiest so far.
The number of foreign tourists who make use of paid private accommodation has been increasing especially in the past two years. According to the CzechTourism survey, the number of tourists using private accommodation or applications for shared accommodation in the Czech Republic between last year January and September reached 2.2 million.

The increasing share of paid private accommodation is especially clear in the number of tourists coming from European countries such as France, Italy and Great Britain, or the United States of America. At the same time, more than a half of the people who use the paid private accommodation services state it is their first visit to the Czech Republic. So far, the use of individual accommodation is most common in Prague. The segment of shared accommodation is growing rapidly in the Czech Republic, accounting for roughly 25 per cent of the total number of overnight stays.

Therefore, Praguewants to explore ways of collecting accommodation fees from these tourists in the future and the potential means of regulating this sector. For example, cities such as Berlin, Munich, Hamburg or Barcelona have instituted a mandatory registration of leased apartments. Since last year, the landlords in Paris are required to pay tourism fees.
