Prague has two restaurants with Michelin stars, plus four designated as Bib Gourmand and 25 as Plate Michelin, for a total of 31 mentioned eateries.
The two restaurants given one star are the same as in 2018, Field and La Degustation Bohême Bourgeoise. Current star holder Field, located in Prague’s Old Town, is described as a “stylishly understated restaurant, which has a warm, intimate feel.” The décor, the well-balanced Scandinavian cooking and non-alcoholic beverage suggestions earned praise.
La Degustation Bohême Bourgeois, also in Old Town, uses a famous 19th-century Czech cookbook as “inspiration for creative modern dishes which stimulate the taste buds.” The chandeliers and inlaid tables inside a historical building earned a mention.
Four more Czech restaurants - Divinis, Eska, Na Kopci and Sansho - have been given a Bib Gourmand award, which is intended for exceptional restaurants where you can have a meal at a reasonable price.
Michelin stars are designated in travel guides put out by French tire company Michelin. The stars are given out by anonymous inspectors, and restaurants can earn up to three stars, although the Czech Republic only has only ever had one-star restaurants. One star means top quality ingredients are used and that dishes with distinct flavors are carefully prepared to a consistently high standard.
