Prague occupies 11th place in the list of the most popular congress destinations drawn up by the International Congress and Convention Association ICCA.
European cities have long been at the top of the list of the most popular destinations in the world. Paris occupied first place this year, followed by Vienna, Berlin and London. Prague has held a position around tenth place for a number of years and an increasing number of events are held here every year that correspond to the criteria of the International Congress and Convention Association ICCA.
The data of the Czech Statistical Office and Prague Convention Bureau confirm the increase in the number of conferences. In 2016, a total of 4,426 conferences were held in the Capital City, the most in the last decade. This is more than three times as many as in 2006, when 1,360 events were held (in 2006–2008, events with at least 100 participants were included; since 2009, this number has been reduced to 50 participants).
"Every year since 2010, Prague has had the honour of hosting more than half a million congress delegates from various parts of the world. Last year, a total of 541,412 persons attended congresses here, mostly from Great Britain, Germany and the U.S.A. As the range of services associated with the congress industry improves and also with the on-going reconstruction of conference areas, we hope that the Czech metropolis will become even more attractive for people organising events and associations that are deciding where to hold their next meeting," said Roman Muška, Director of the Prague Convention Bureau.
