Following the example of some European cities, the Czech Republic is planning to introduce new regulation of the Airbnb service this year. The measures under consideration include a time limit for renting from 30 to 120 days to prevent the platform from being used for commercial purposes. Last year, the tax administration also decided that hosts must pay taxes on their services.
The number of active hosts in Prague remains more or less the same. For instance, there were 3 211 Airbnb hosts in Prague in December last year, which is a 10% decrease compared to the year before that. According to Airbnb, there are 7 200 hosts in total in Prague. Nearly 70% of them offer only one place to stay and only 44% of flats are available all year round.
Airbnb was first introduced in the Czech Republic in 2009. Expert analyses show that Airbnb’s sales volume in Prague has already reached the sales volume of traditional accommodation facilities. Apart from Airbnb, there are also other services available on the market such as Flipkey, HomeAway, House Trip, Vacation Rentals or Vrbo.
