The summer season brought recovery in demand for accommodation but only among guests from the Czech Republic, there was still lack of foreign tourists.
The number of overnight stays in collective accommodation establishments reached 17.4 million nights in total in the 3rd quarter of the year, which was by 16.8% less compared to the same period of 2019. In absolute numbers, it was a decrease by 3.5 million nights. The number of overnight stays of guests from abroad decreased by 68.5%.
The number of overnight stays of Czech guests rose by 17.2% compared to the previous year. Czech hotels and other accommodation establishments saw nearly 6 million guests in the 3rd quarter, a decrease by one fifth, or 1.6 million guests, year-on-year. There was a lack of foreigners in Czech hotels; 2.3 million visits from abroad did not materialize. The higher number of guests from the Czech Republic did not compensate this slump.
In five-star hotels, arrivals of residents were twice higher year-on-year, in four-star hotels the increase accounted for 38%. In summer, accommodation in the traditional segment of pensions (+31.1%) and tourist campsites (+20.0%) was successful, too. In terms of regions, the number of guests increased in approximately half of them, with number of guests from the Czech Republic increasing in all of them.
The following regions of the country were the the most successful in terms of domestic tourism: the Karlovy Vary region (+62.1% of arrivals), the Liberec region (+26.3% of arrivals), and the South Bohemia region (+21.9%). Also the numbers of overnight stays of residents increased year-on-year in all regions by 17.2% in average. Prague, however, remains “in the red numbers” due to the lack of foreign visitors.
