The Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra has cultivated a rich musical tradition that has shaped its distinctive Bohemian sound and forward-thinking repertoire. Celebrated by both Czech and international audiences and critics, the orchestra is renowned for its masterful interpretations not only of Leoš Janáček, but also of a wide range of works from the Late Romantic era through to contemporary music. Its repertoire includes standout performances of composers such as Suk, Mahler, Bartók, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich.
Based in the industrial Czech city of Ostrava, the Janáček Philharmonic is recognized as one of the country’s leading symphony orchestras. The ensemble is also preparing for an exciting new chapter as it looks forward to moving into its future home, the Ostrava Concert Hall—a highly anticipated cultural project currently under construction. Designed by renowned architect Steven Holl, the new hall is set to become one of Ostrava’s most significant artistic landmarks.
As the birthplace of world-renowned composers Leoš Janáček, Bedřich Smetana, and Antonín Dvořák, Czechia’s rich musical heritage is prominently reflected in the tour’s programme. In addition to works by these iconic Czech composers, the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra will also showcase music by a range of distinguished international composers.
