The challenging reconstruction that took three years is complete and the Museum of Decorative Arts is opening its collections again. Thanks to the reconstruction, you can now see many more exhibits from the vast museum collections. The museum will welcome its first visitors on 15th November and admission will be free until 17th November. The museum is located in the Old Town close to the Rudolfinum and the Jewish Quarter. It will be open daily except Mondays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. During 2018, the museum will gradually open up its permanent expositions.
Over 50,000 Exhibits
If you want to see the best of past and contemporary Czech industrial arts, decorative arts and design, visit the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague. It is the largest museum in the Czech Republic dedicated to decorative arts and design and offers over 50,000 exhibits! The museum collections include another 200,000 exhibits but it is not possible to display all of them due to lack of capacity.Special Exhibition
The Museum of Decorative Arts has prepared a special exhibition for its reopening entitled Director’s Choice. The exhibition will show masterpieces from all the fields of decorative arts, industrial arts and design and it will be extraordinary not only thanks to the form of presentation, but also thanks to its significance. Thirty thematic units depict the development of decorative arts from the Gothic and Renaissance era to the 20th century, represented by works of Alfons Mucha, František Drtikol, Pavel Janák, Ladislav Sutnar, František Vízner and others. The exhibition is open from 15th November 2017 to 1st February 2018.Largest Czech Public Library
The Library of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague will also open again after the reconstruction. It is the largest Czech professional public library specialising in decorative and industrial arts, architecture and design.The newly constructed hall on the main museum floor now hosts the expanded museum shop by Modernista, where you can purchase professional books and magazines about design, decorative arts, as well as replicas of the original objects in the collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts, and contemporary Czech design, original designer fashion and accessories and small souvenirs. Visitors can also enjoy the restaurant and café Času dost (Plenty of Time) with a varied and modern menu.
