Tomáš Souček is the kind of player who earns admiration not only through goals or flashy tricks, but above all through what often goes unnoticed – hard work, discipline and the ability to lead by example. At West Ham United he is a key figure in the starting eleven, while in the Czech national team he serves as captain. From a young lad from the Vysočina Region, he has grown into a midfielder respected around the world – yet he has remained the same down-to-earth guy who apologises after a match if he accidentally kicks someone.
From the Vysočina Region to the British Isles
Tomáš Souček was born in 1995 in Havlíčkův Brod, in the heart of the Vysočina Region. From an early age, he was extremely focused, and thanks to a supportive family background he was close to sport, which naturally led him to disciplined training and hard work. Even in his youth, he caught the attention of SK Slavia Prague, where he progressed through the academy all the way to the first team. After loan spells at FK Viktoria Žižkov and FC Slovan Liberec, he established himself as a permanent member of Slavia’s starting line-up. In 2020, he moved to West Ham United, initially on loan and later on a permanent transfer. Within his first six months, he was voted the club’s Player of the Season. In 2023, he captained West Ham to victory in the UEFA Europa Conference League, securing his place in the club’s history.

A Captain Who Runs More Than Anyone Else
For the Czech national team, Tomáš Souček has played more than sixty-five matches and scored several crucial goals, including two at UEFA Euro 2020. Since 2021, he has worn the captain’s armband and is known for his resilience, physical endurance and selfless approach. His playing style combines strength, tactical discipline and a surprisingly high goal-scoring output. In the Premier League, he is regularly among the players who cover the greatest distance each season. In the Footsteps of Tomáš Souček
To follow Souček’s roots, head to the Vysočina Region, to Havlíčkův Brod, where he was born. In the town, you will find not only the local stadium where he took his first football steps, but also a charming historic centre and a pleasant riverside promenade along the Sázava River.Another great tip is a trip to the Žďárské vrchy, the region his family comes from. He spent part of his childhood here, and the surrounding hills helped build his legendary stamina. You can hike to Devět skal, the highest peak of the area, or visit the Pilgrimage Church of Saint John of Nepomuk at Zelená hora, a beautifully restored UNESCO World Heritage Site.
