Soldiers will take you on a tour of the guardhouse, show you the armaments and tell you about the hardships and delights of serving at the Terezín fortress at the end of the 18th century. A visual and comprehensible commentary will answer the question: Why is the fortress in the shape of a star? Experience the atmosphere of a time when soldiers wore colourful uniforms and tricorn hats, slept on straw beds and ate out of tin dishes in candlelight. Accompanied by sappers (combat engineers), you can view the reconstructed premises of the guardhouse filled with period furniture. You will learn something about arms – cavalry swords and flint guns – which you will be able to hold and try, unlike at a museum. Artillerymen will then be delighted to show off their biggest piece: a three-pounder gun (also known as a grasshopper cannon). Children will be able to try charging a gun or making a fire using a tinderbox. You will discover how many well-thought-out details it contains and what a unique engineering project it is.
