The most famous native of Litomyšl, composer Bedřich Smetana, is celebrated every summer with a big music festival. Dating from 1949, it is the second oldest music festival in Czechia.
The Smetana Litomyšl Festival, one of the most important music festivals in Czechia, returns to its traditional setting: the courtyard of the Renaissance castle in Litomyšl, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

From 14 June to 6 July 2025, the 67th edition of the festival will offer a total of 47 programmes combining opera, symphonic music, ballet, and chamber concerts. This year's theme is "Passion" - not only as an artistic motif, but as a force that connects, inspires and transcends boundaries.

A new feature is the modern SmetaNOVA Hall designed by architect Josef Pleskot, which elegantly combines historical atmosphere with modern acoustics and scenography.

Stars of the International and Czech Music Scene

The festival will open with a gala concert by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Jakub Hrůša and featuring violinist Vilde Frang. It will be followed by world-class artists such as Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Isata Kanneh-Mason, Boris Giltburg, and Alisa Weilerstein.

You can look forward to prestigious orchestras such as the Dresden Philharmonic, Kremerata Baltica, and The King's Singers. The National Theatres from Prague, Brno and Ostrava will bring opera productions. There will be choral works performed by the Collegium Vocale 1704, symphonic concerts and prominent singers such as Corinne Winters, Gerald Finley and Elena Tsalagova. The dance programme will be enriched by a Ballet Gala with stars from London, Paris and Munich.

As part of the accompanying programme, you can look forward to Festival Gardens, art installations, guided tours, poetry readings and family events.
