Golden Spike Ostrava
Golden Spike in Ostrava is the most important meeting on the Czech soil and one of the oldest athletic competitions in Europe. The best athletes in the world compete in it exclusively at the invitation of its organisers. The selection process is very strict.
The history of Golden Spike Ostrava began in 1961, at a time when no one could have imagined it would become more than just a Czech athletics phenomenon. Since 2019, it has been a part of the new elite world athletics series under the name World Athletics Continental Tour – Gold. It is the second highest world competition just behind the Diamond League. In the 200m, 300m Steeplechase, discus throw and triple jump, it is even the highest competition.

Golden Spike Ostrava is known for its unique atmosphere and its fans, who fill the galleries of the Municipal Stadium in Ostrava.

The biggest star of recent Golden Spikes was multiple world record holder Usain Bolt. The industrial lookout tower, Bolt Tower, the superstructure of the blast furnace in Dolní Vítkovice, also bears his name.
