The most famous native of Litomyšl, composer Bedřich Smetana, is celebrated every summer with a big music festival. Dating from 1949, it is the second oldest music festival in Czechia.
The Smetana Litomyšl Festival, one of the most important music festivals in Czechia, returns to its traditional setting: the courtyard of the Renaissance castle in Litomyšl, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
From 12 June to 5 July 2026, the 68th edition of the festival will offer programmes combining opera, symphonic music, ballet, and chamber concerts.
A new feature is the modern SmetaNOVA Hall designed by architect Josef Pleskot, which elegantly combines historical atmosphere with modern acoustics and scenography.

As part of the accompanying programme, you can look forward to Festival Gardens, art installations, guided tours, poetry readings and family events.
