EuroVelo: Along European Routes Across Vysočina
Our tip: Don’t forget your picnic blanket and camera. There will be plenty to photograph!
Vysočina is crisscrossed by one European long-distance cycling routes: EuroVelo 4, offering you a diverse mix of experiences. Vysočina has a route for everyone.
EuroVelo 4: will guide you along the Central European trail, where mountain meadows alternate with views of historic towns. Along the way, you’ll come across traditional villages, technical landmarks, and cosy cafés. The route is suitable for both families and experienced cyclists. In the Vysočina Region, the route passes through the Iron Mountains, the Žďár Hills, Nové Město na Moravě, and Bystřice nad Pernštejnem. It then continues through the South Moravian Region all the way to Tarnów in Poland. The entire route begins in Brittany, France.
The Cycle Route No. 16: Bohemian-Moravian Route runs from Hlinsko through Jihlava and Telč to Slavonice. Most of the route lies in the Vysočina Region and is suitable for recreational cyclists. Along the way, you can visit historic towns like Telč (UNESCO) or Slavonice with its beautiful Renaissance architecture.
Jihlava–Třebíč–Raabs is an international cycling route connecting three countries and three stories: the silver mines of Jihlava, the Jewish Quarter of Třebíč, and the quiet Austrian town of Raabs with views of the Thaya River.
Přibyslav–Sázava: A Landscape of Rivers and Tranquillity
Our tip: Park in Přibyslav – the return journey from Sázava is gently downhill, so you’ll really enjoy the ride back.
The area around Přibyslav and Sázava represents a typical Vysočina landscape, where the River Sázava flows peacefully between green meadows and dense forests. The Přibyslav–Sázava cycle path partly follows EuroVelo 4, is 9.2 km long, 3 metres wide, surfaced with asphalt, and follows the former railway line from Německý Brod to Žďár nad Sázavou. It begins at the train station in Přibyslav and ends in the village of Sázava, home to a Benedictine monastery, leading through forests, meadows, embankments and sunken lanes. Along the route, you’ll find footbridges, rest areas and car parks at both ends. Thanks to the smooth asphalt, the path is suitable not only for cyclists, but also for skaters, wheelchair users and walkers.
Vysočina’s UNESCO Heritage Triangle

The Vysočina Region is not just about nature. Its towns are architectural gems and cultural hubs that are well worth a visit. Vysočina’s UNESCO Heritage Triangle connects Třebíč, Telč and Žďár nad Sázavou. Three historic towns, three unique worlds:
Žďár nad Sázavou: will impress you, among other things, with the Baroque Pilgrimage Church of St John of Nepomuk at Zelená hora, designed by Santini. A UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Třebíč: A town recognised for its unique Jewish Quarter and the Romanesque-Gothic Basilica of St Procopius. Třebíč feels like a window into ancient cultures.
Telč: A fairytale town whose Renaissance square and splendid château are surrounded by a picturesque landscape and water features. Telč offers visitors an atmosphere of peace and elegance that is hard to find anywhere else.
Our Tip for a Trip:

Dream Route: Telč – Žďár nad Sázavou via UNESCO Treasures

Difficulty: Medium (101 km can be divided into stages)
Route Length:
Start: Telč: begin in one of the most beautiful Renaissance towns in Europe. A postcard-perfect square and a château surrounded by fishponds will set the tone for a journey full of history and tranquillity.
Direction Třebíč: ride through rolling countryside and quiet forests to a town where the Romanesque-Gothic Basilica of St Procopius blends with the atmosphere of the old Jewish Quarter
Finish: Žďár nad Sázavou: the route ends with a UNESCO landmark: the Pilgrimage Church of St John of Nepomuk at Zelená hora. Alongside its spiritual aura, you’ll find a modern museum, a café, and a beautiful park perfect for a picnic.
Something for Hikers Too: Hills and Forgotten Quarries
Our tip: Enjoy an amazing view of the Jihlava River Valley and the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant from the wooden Mohelno Lookout.
The nature in the Vysočina Region is among the most diverse in Czechia. These spots are great destinations, but in their surroundings you’ll often need to get off the saddle. The Mohelno serpentine steppe will surprise you with a landscape that resembles Mediterranean slopes more than Central Europe: dry terrain, low vegetation, and views into the canyon of the Jihlava River. The Vysočina Geopark is ideal for family trips, where you’ll learn more about the formation of the landscape. The quarries near Lipnice offer a mysterious natural setting with crystal-clear water and remnants of long-abandoned mining. A perfect place for a break, photography, or a refreshing stop.
Luxury Facilities for Cyclists and Wellness

In Vysočina, you’ll also find plenty of places to unwind once you’ve stepped out of the saddle. At the château hotel Valeč, you can enjoy modern wellness and romantic evenings, while the luxurious Resort Svatá Kateřina attracts all those who seek peace and tranquillity. On the other hand, lovers of active relaxation will appreciate Golf Resort Telč and Golf Resort Svratka – courses set in stunning natural surroundings, with the option to stay overnight and relax after a game or a trip.
