From May to September, South Bohemia will transform into a vast open-air stage as the first official edition of Jižní Svéráz brings over 40 performances to unconventional locations across the region.

Theatre in landscapes and unexpected places

The festival features more than 40 productions by 31 Czech and international ensembles, combining theatre, dance, and performance art. Audiences can experience shows at unique locations such as ponds, galleries, breweries, school gyms, abandoned buildings, and even cemeteries. A highlight is the iconic Revolving Auditorium in Český Krumlov, one of the most distinctive theatre venues in Europe.

Among the international-friendly highlights are:
  • Majáky na konci světa (České Budějovice), inspired by Vietnamese water puppet theatre
  • Ztracené pohyby (České Budějovice), transforming everyday gestures into expressive choreography
  • Seismic (Písek), a contemporary performance
  • The Bartered Bride staged in the UNESCO-listed village of Holašovice
  • Hotel Fatigue (Týn nad Vltavou), an immersive production in a former hostel
Additional performances at the Revolving Auditorium include Decameron, Hercules, The Little Prince, Sense and Sensibility, The Lost World, and Da Vinci.
