An eleven-metre-tall lilac sweater, a sofa made from a dented Mercedes, and a giant pickle. On 16 October 2026, The Museum of Fine Arts Liberec (Galerie Lázně Liberec) reopens its doors in spectacular style after several months of closure, with an exhibition by world-renowned Austrian artist Erwin Wurm. Titled One Minute Forever, the show features around 60 works and runs until 28 March 2027.

Erwin Wurm: An Oversized Sweater and a Giant Pickle in Liberec

Liberec/Ondřej Přibyl

The sculptures and objects created by Erwin Wurm combine absurdity with humour. The centrepiece of the exhibition in Liberec is an enormous eleven-metre knitted wool sweater in lilac, suspended from the ceiling of the gallery’s so-called Pool Hall.

Dramatic uplighting accentuates its monumental scale, transforming the space into a striking visual experience. Two of Wurm’s sculptures are also on display outside the gallery building. Two of Wurm’s sculptures are also on display outside the gallery building.

Two More Exhibitions:

The new programme at The Museum of Fine Arts Liberec is complemented by two further exhibitions. Kvet Nguyễn, a Slovak artist of Vietnamese heritage, explores the stories of the first group of Vietnamese emigrants to Czechoslovakia. In a collaborative project, Małgorzata Mirga-Tas, a Polish artist of Roma heritage, and Czech artist Sráče Sam turn their attention to the theme of friendship.

The Museum of Fine Arts Liberec, housed in a historic neo-Renaissance former municipal bathhouse, is also preparing a new concept for its permanent exhibition, set to open in 2027.
