Winter Events Worth Seeing

Stopa pro život (19 January–16 March 2019)

At 5 locations throughout the Czech mountains on 5 dates, 5 opportunities will arise to spend a winter weekend in the mountains. The series of races Stopa pro život (Ski Trail for Life) comprises five major – and popular – Czech cross-country skiing races. Each one is a little different, with its own unique history, its particular charm, and its own unique racetrack and backdrop. Races take place in Krkonoše, Krušné hory, Šumava, and Vysočina.

World Snowboard Day (20 January 2019)

Come and enjoy a day full of snowboarding and accompanying events. Celebrations of World Snowboard Day and an accompanying programme, including a public race, await you at the Krkonoše resort of Horní Mísečky.

Šediváčkův long (22–26 January 2019)

This is one of the most difficult dogsled races in Europe, where dogs and their mushers will once again race in Orlické hory. There are 4- or 5-stage races, with a length of 200 or 300 km respectively, and the total elevation difference is around 7,500 m. You will be able to see approximately 700 dogs and over 100 mushers.

Jizerská 50 (8–10 February 2019)

Held in Jizerské hory, the race Jizerská 50 (Jizera 50) is one of the most significant sporting events in the Czech Republic. It is a traditional cross-country race intended for both professional and amateur skiers. A varied programme lasting for all three days of the event awaits racers and spectators each year. As well as the main 50-kilometre race, the organisers also provide racers with the option of a shorter trail, or races with techniques that differ from traditional techniques.

Chinese Downhill (23 February 2019)

What can you do with a downhill slope towards the end of the season? Organise something completely crazy! As well as skiers and snowboarders, you will therefore be able to see dozens of fearless bikers tearing down the downhill slopes in Špindlerův Mlýn. Chinese Downhill has become an unforgettable experience for riders and spectators alike.

City Cross Sprint Ostrava (23 February 2019)

A city race on cross-country skis open to the public and, at the same time, an exhibition featuring Czech and international skiing stars, this event is held in a location unlike any other: the industrial heritage site Dolní oblasti Vítkovice. Towering furnaces, a preserved gasometer, and Bolt Tower can all be seen during the race.
 

Audi FIS Ski World Cup Špindlerův Mlýn (8–9 March 2019)

This global event is returning to Krkonoše, Czech Republic, after eight long years. These two March days are sure to be an unbeatable experience for all lovers of winter sports. This year we can look forward to seeing elite skiers, including Czech skier Ester Ledecká, Americans Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin, and Slovak Petra Vlhová. The giant slalom takes place on Friday, 8 March, with the two-run slalom special following on Saturday.

Krkonošská 70 (16 March 2019)

This legendary and traditional 70-kilometre race on mountainous terrain attracts almost everyone who enjoys cross-country skiing and racing to the Krkonoše town of Špindlerův Mlýn. The Krkonošská 70 (Krkonoše 70) is truly a challenge. It is not about winning; instead it is about the joy of racing and exercise. This is the last of the five-race series Stopa pro život (Ski Trail for Life).

Ski & Golf Czech Championship 2019 (5 April 2019)

Is this a new kind of biathlon? Golf and skiing? If you are not sure how to combine these two sports, come and watch in Špindlerův Mlýn. The local resort is not only prepared for international races, but also for unconventional combinations.
