What makes Dvořák Prague unique
The main idea behind the international
Dvořák Prague Festival has always been to present the
good reputation of Czech culture through the legacy of the work of composer Antonín Dvořák, his contemporaries and students. And since quality is the only measure of the festival, only top soloists, conductors, internationally acknowledged orchestras and chamber ensembles meet on the stages of Dvořák Prague to present the international audience with his music, as well as music by other world composers. The programme focuses on classical romantic music with diversions to classicism on one side, and the uncontested and time-honoured music of the 20
th century, or even 21
st century, on the other side.
This year’s festival opening
The festival fanfare, which is Antonín Dvořák’s
Cello Concerto and the
New World Symphony, will bring the sound of the most famous opera theatre in Europe to Dvořák Prague. The opening concert in Rudolfinum will be performed by
Filarmonica della Scala, conducted by
Andrés Orozco-Estrada. The opening concert will commemorate the fact that this year’s festival will be a celebration of the
180th anniversary of Antonín Dvořák’s birth. Filarmonica della Scala will also perform on the following festival day, presenting music by W. A. Mozart and Hector Berlioz.
Where to see the festival
The concerts of the popular Dvořák Prague Festival take place in
Rudolfinum where the main concert hall is. The
Prague St. Agnes Convent will host smaller chamber concerts, or you can visit
St. Vitus Cathedral and places linked to the life and work of Antonín Dvořák, such as
Nelahozeves,
Plzeň or the
Sychrov Chateau.
Current COVID-19 pandemic situation
The organisers do not underestimate the gravity of the situation because the health and safety of all visitors and artists performing at the Dvořák Prague Festival is a priority, just like a year ago. Considering the fact that this year’s festival programme is published sufficiently in advance, it is not possible to currently say what the concerts will look like in September. In any case,
admission will be refunded in full if a
concert is cancelled due to anti-epidemic measures. If you have any questions, please contact the organiser at produkce@dvorakovapraha.cz
