The street food scene in Czechia is experiencing a significant boom. While stalls selling sausages and hot dogs used to dominate, today’s scene features creative food trucks, modern bistros, and a return of traditional Czech flavours. So where can you taste the very best right on the street?

Modern Food Trucks and Stalls

In Prague, you will find plenty of interesting food trucks offering a diverse selection: from sweet doughnuts and meatloaf to perfectly crafted burgers. The highest concentration can be found in the districts of Holešovice, Karlín, and Smíchov. Among the most popular is the GULE Food Truck, which employs persons with disabilities and serves sweet doughnuts with milkshakes, or Chicken Guys with their perfectly spiced grilled chicken. For fans of American-style hot dogs, there is Dogfather or the Food Truck Point in the Holešovice Market, which is undergoing a major visual transformation.

Have Fun On the Riverbank: You can also sample various specialities along the Vltava riverbank in Prague. A great opportunity to enjoy treats right on the street is at farmers' markets.

Brno
, the second largest city in Czechia, where a colonnade with a cycle path and piers into the river has opened along the Svratka River, stands out with places like Bücheck at Zelný trh, serving burgers fried in pork lard. Vegetarians and vegans will appreciate the vegan ice cream from Božský Kopeček or the plant-based bowls from Forky’s Food Truck. The local scene is very lively and creative, as demonstrated by the Gourmet Brno project – a guide to the best bistros and street food spots.

For Events and Weddings: MedyChef is a food truck and catering service from Pardubice that specialises in wedding catering and offers a wide variety of dishes. Their menu also includes traditional pork feasts and other specialities.

Traditional Czech Specialities

Alongside modern trends, traditional Czech classics are also making a strong comeback. Meatloaf in a bun remains a popular quick snack, ideally made from quality meat supplied by local butchers, such as the Naše maso shop in Prague. Fried cheese in a bun brings a touch of nostalgia from student days.

The hot dog, such as the one from South Bohemian Pikador, holds a firm place in the hearts of Czechs, and the classic sausage with mustard and bread is a staple at markets and street events. Brawn with onion and vinegar is an essential treat for true lovers of Czech cuisine, and a classic fresh doughnut filled with jam or chocolate certainly deserves a special mention. Add to that a fragrant potato pancake with garlic and marjoram, often sold as a perfect snack to go.

Hungry at Night? No problem! For those who enjoy a late-night bite, Prague offers several “hunger windows” that serve food even in the early morning hours. For example, Letná nonstop by Letenské Square offers grilled chicken and fried cheese in a bun, while Nonstop Malovanka serves specialities like fries with Hawaii chicken.

Fries With A Twist

Faency Fries is a young Czech street food concept specialising in fresh homemade fries. The fries are double-fried and served with a wide selection of homemade dips. You can find their branches in more than 13 cities across the Czech Republic, including Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Olomouc, and Karlovy Vary. One of the places to try them is at Manifesto Market Anděl in Prague, where you can also enjoy the pleasant atmosphere of an urban market.

Festivals: Everything in One Place

Food trucks
regularly gather at various festivals. Food Truck Festival Zlín is an annual gastronomic event taking place on 21 and 22 September 2025 at náměstí Míru, offering over 20 food trucks with a variety of specialities from both Czechia and abroad.

The Autumn Food Truck Market in Řevnice, held on 11 October 2025, will bring a wide selection of street food specialities, farmers’ produce and artisanal goods to King George of Poděbrady Square. Another event is the Asia Food Fest (13 October 2025) at the Smíchov riverbank in Prague, where you can enjoy dishes from Japan, Thailand, India, and other Asian countries. Another opportunity to enjoy tasty treats under the open sky in Prague is the Food Piknik Ladronka (31 August 2025).

And what else is there to try?
