Carnival in Český Krumlov
Carnival season, meaning the period from the Epiphany to Ash Wednesday, was the holiday of feasting. Banquets were held at the royal court, dances in the cities, and hog roasts in the countryside – all of it culminating in a masquerade on Shrove Tuesday, i.e. the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. Among the Czech cities and villages celebrating the most charming carnival traditions is Český Krumlov. The medieval streets are the scenes of masked processions accompanied by street theater, jugglers and musicians, dancing and lavish hospitality.
