Chateau Nové Město nad Metují
In the 17th century the whole chateau and the estate came into possession of Walter of Leslie, a Scottish constable, who was promoted to the position of fi eld marshal and imperial Count. It was a reward for his share in the murder of Albrecht von Wallenstein and other Czech aristocrats accused of a plot against the Emperor.

Why visit

At the beginning of the 20th century J. Bartoň, the rich owner of a textile factory, picked out the devastated Baroque chateau as a future family residence. Excellent architects of that time, Dušan Jurkovič and Pavel Janák, rebuilt it into a modern residence equipped with technical amenities, such as a water main, central heating, electric power, telephone, and dining and personal lifts.

The bold Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Cubist and functionalist decoration of the modernized historic ceremonial rooms and the industrial family's private apartments was created by leading Czech artists.
