For decades, Czechia has been celebrating International Music Day on 1 October. It’s a special occasion not only for musicians but also for music lovers across the world. Mark the day in Czechia and explore the country’s rich tapestry of festivals and concerts. Here are just a few highlights of the exciting music events taking place this autumn.

Rock, pop and jazz as well

The Vicente-Dikeman-Jones-Drake

In the first half of October, make sure you don’t miss the Jazz Goes To Town international music festival in Hradec Králové, with this year’s slogan being Harvesting Sound. This year, you can look forward to Vicente-Dikeman-Jones-Drake quartet.

The Vicente-Dikeman-Jones-Drake Quartet is an all-star ensemble on today’s international free jazz scene, drawing on the American tradition of the 1960s. The duo of expressive soloists, well known across the European circuit, are joined by two New York legends – double bassist Brad Jones and drummer Hamid Drake.

MAESTRO PLÁCIDO DOMINGO: In autumn 2025, Prague will host a truly unique musical celebration as world-renowned opera legend Maestro Plácido Domingo makes his debut at the Dvořák Hall of the Rudolfinum. On the evening of 16 October 2025, audiences can look forward to an unforgettable experience filled with passion, elegance and history. The programme will feature a selection of the most famous operatic arias by Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini and Camille Saint-Saëns, as well as fiery Spanish zarzuelas that highlight Domingo’s heritage.

This year’s Prague Sounds 2025 music festival, which has been delighting audiences for many years, kicks off on 1 November 2025 with a programme of music you won’t hear anywhere else. It will feature artists such as Silvana Estrada, the Mexican singer-songwriter and Grammy winner; vocalist Arooj Aftab, who fuses Pakistani music with jazz; and leading jazz singer Cécile McLorin Salvant, a Grammy recipient who transcends genre boundaries. Prague festival is so special because it features performances in the best venues! Concerts will be held, as always, at the Rudolfinum, which has a dress code, as well as at La Fabrika or Lucerna Music Bar.

Czech Philharmonic & Velvet Revolution Anniversary

If you’re more into classical music, we recommend seeing the concerts by the Czech Philharmonic, a world-class professional ensemble from Prague. They give regular concerts all year round in the Rudolfinum, their home ground. However, to mark the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, on 16 and 17 November 2025 the Czech Philharmonic will play two unprecedented concerts.
