World Tourism Day, celebrated annually on September 27, highlights the importance of tourism in fulfilling the desires and needs of millions of people worldwide. Travel can be a force for good: Choose eco-friendly transport, support local businesses, and respect the places you visit. Together, we can make tourism more sustainable.

Experience Every Moment in Czechia

Initiated by the World Tourism Organization ↗, this year’s official theme is Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence Transforming Tourism.
Why this topic? AI is becoming a natural part of how people plan their trips, from choosing where to stay to deciding what to see and do. World Tourism Day, celebrated every year on 27 September by UN Tourism, is a good moment to look at how this is changing travel and what it means for destinations and travellers.

AI and Immersive Experiences: How Technology Is Changing Tourism

The Prague City Museum – Main Building
  • Napoleon in Slavkov: As part of the new “Austerlitz 1805” exhibition at Slavkov–Austerlitz Castle, visitors can meet a digital Napoleon and have a conversation with him. They can ask about his life, the Battle of Austerlitz and military strategy, making the historical experience more interactive.

  • Mucha Museum in Prague: Visitors can use an AI guide to ask questions about Alphonse Mucha and individual works in the collection. Answers are available in several languages and can also be listened to as audio.

  • The Prague City Museum: The Prague City Museum is exploring practical ways to use AI in museums, including a multilingual AI chatbot, an AI puppet and tools that allow visitors to interact with historical figures and museum collections in new ways.

  • VR as a journey into the past: Virtual reality allows visitors to experience historic sites and cities as they once looked. In Prague and other Czech destinations, VR experiences are bringing past eras to life, reconstructing lost buildings and allowing visitors to experience historic events from the perspective of people who were there.

But once we set off, the real experience takes centre stage again: the places we visit, the people we meet and the moments we experience first-hand, whether with loved ones or on our own. Technology may help us discover the world, but it is being there that makes travel truly memorable.
