Step into a world where paintings turn into sculptures, flat images become three-dimensional and your perspective can completely change what you see. Located in the heart of Prague, just a few steps from Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock, the Illusion Art Museum Prague (IAM) is the Czechia’s first museum dedicated to illusion art and trick art. It has won the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award several times.

See art from a different perspective

IAM combines historic illusion-making techniques with original contemporary illusion art by Czech and international artists. Explore anamorphosis, reverse perspective, spatial illusions, kinetic art and light-based installations by artists including Patrik Proško, Patrick Hughes, Ivana Štenclová, Jonty Hurwitz and Florian Goerlitz.

But this is not a museum where you simply look at the exhibits. Many of the artworks are interactive, encouraging you to touch, explore, find the correct viewpoint and become part of the artwork. You can also try painting with light yourself and use augmented reality to discover new layers of selected works.

Multilingual museum staff are on hand to explain how the artworks and illusions work, reveal the best viewpoints and help you capture memorable photographs. An audio guide is available in 13 languages, making the museum accessible to visitors from around the world.

Czech history through illusion

The museum also offers a playful introduction to Czech history, culture and storytelling. Optical illusions and interactive installations bring historical figures and stories to life, from Charles IV and Saint Wenceslas to Franz Kafka, Antonín Dvořák, Nikola Tesla and Václav Havel.

This combination of contemporary art, optical illusion and Czech cultural heritage makes the museum a unique way to experience Prague from a different perspective.

IAM is an air-conditioned, all-weather attraction in the heart of Prague, well suited to families with school-age children, teenagers, couples and school groups. Allow around 60–90 minutes for your visit.
