Imagine a lively celebration after a successful hunt, with the men boasting of their catch and the ladies dancing in their beautiful gowns. Although John’s Castle looks at first glance to be a romantic ruin, it is in fact a fully functional hunting lodge.
The atmosphere of the castle, which in the early 19th century became the site of sumptuous feasts after the hunt, is enhanced by the romantic English park in Lednice. There were areas here for stabling horses, preparing dishes from game, and amusements for the nobility. In addition to hunting uses, John’s Castle was also inhabited by the princely gamekeeper. The building features four corner towers, which are connected on three sides only by perimeter walls. Stroll the walkways between the towers and transport yourself back to the time when aristocratic guests would gather in the courtyard before setting off on a hunt. An air of days gone by is also created by the three original oak spiral staircases, now almost 200 years old.
