A trail full of sites and views
The trail leads through the Lužnice valley area called Toulava (from the Czech word “toulat” – which means wander through the countryside and enjoy its beauty without hurry). It starts in Planá nad Lužnicí, from where it continues along the river bank following the blue marked trail to Sezimovo Ústí, where it switches to the red trail via the Hýlačka Lookout Tower and then along the yellow trail to Tábor. It continues along the river valley following the red trail to Bechyně and then along the river all the way to Týn nad Vltavou, where the Lužnice flows into the Vltava. You can also follow the trail logo on the signposts and information boards.
And what will you see along the way? Besides the centres of historical towns, there is the villa of the second Czechoslovak President Edvard Beneš in Sezimovo Ústí. Or the Stádlecký Bridge – the very last chain bridge in the Czech Republic. Near Bechyně, a beautiful view of the river and the cliff that the river has dug into will open in front of you. The rocks past Bechyně are ready for their visitors and you can even hike the secured rock trail, or via ferrata.
One of the best trails in Europe
It is the first Best of Europe trail in the Czech Republic that has received this all-European title. A trail has to meet strict criteria to be listed, regarding the surfaces of the trail, attractiveness and accessibility of services along the entire trail. The hiking trail along Lužnice has joined the ranks of about twenty other trails that proudly hold this award. The Czech Republic is the tenth European country that has such a trail.
