The square Goethovo náměstí in Mariánské Lázně

A place of relaxation and love trysts. Such is the square Goethovo náměstí.

The modified square, named after probably its most famous guest, together with the central colonnade forms the imaginary heart of the city.

At first glance your breath will be taken away by the dominant landmark of the square, the huge octagonal Church of the Assumption, which was built in the historicist Neo-Byzantine style.

Sit by the fountain that adorns the center of the square, listening to the murmur of water and unleash your imagination. When you close your eyes, you'll see the footsteps of history all around you. At the top stands the house "The Golden Grape", where Goethe lived and which today is the seat of the Municipal Museum. The frequent presence of the British King Edward VII is reminded of by the hotel Kavkaz (orig. Stadt Weimar), where the powerful monarch spent the happy moments of his well-earned rest. On the square Goethe himself can also be seen, staring dreamily into the distance from the monument, one of the many that were erected of the famous spa guests. Besides the German poet, several other prominent figures have their monument in Mariánské Lázně, among them the composer Fryderyk Chopin or the pair of statesmen Edward VII and Franz Joseph I.
