The František Glassworks in Sázava, one of the most important industrial heritage sites in Central Bohemia, reopened in spring 2026 with a new vision as a cultural and social hub. Set in a beautifully preserved 19th-century glassworks, the venue combines authentic industrial architecture with a dynamic programme of events, workshops, conferences and community gatherings.
Founded in 1882 by renowned glassmaker Josef Kavalier, the glassworks represents the rich tradition of Czech glassmaking and is protected as a national cultural monument. It is a valuable example of industrial heritage, representing the glassmaking industry in Central Bohemia during the second half of the 19th century, with exceptionally well-preserved examples of machinery. The glassworks housed the Center for Glass Art, which featured an interactive glass exhibition and activities showcasing the craft of glassmaking. However, as of March 2024, its operations had ceased.

Today, visitors can experience the unique atmosphere of the historic production halls, where original industrial features have been preserved and adapted for contemporary use.

The site now hosts cultural events throughout the year, while the newly opened Bistro František offers weekend breakfasts, local flavours and a relaxing setting within the historic complex. Located in the scenic Sázava region near Sázava monastery, the glassworks is an inspiring destination for culture lovers, history enthusiasts and anyone looking to discover a different side of Czechia.
