In heart of Brno, you will find a hidden gem: historic water tanks made of thousands of bricks. This mysterious underground 'cathedrals' could remind you of Moria from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings fantasy trilogy or the Basilica Cistern in Turkey.

The unique underground reservoirs from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries is hidden beneath the hill Žlutý kopec in the centre of the second biggest city in Czechia, within walking distance from Špilberk Castle. The water tanks provided water for more than one hundred thousand inhabitants in city Brno at that time. Nowadays they are disconnected from the supply network of the city Brno.

Please note: The historic water tanks you can visit during a guided tour, but due to undergoing renovations of the the concrete tank, which will be opened in March 2024, the complex is opened only every Saturday.
